With reference to your letter of the 21st You September (43591/1921) transmitting a copy of a

despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong with regard

to the claim of Mr. P. Bauer, an Austrian subject,

to we entitled to exercise his right to take up a

new share in the Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Cor-

poration, I am directed by the Board of Trade to

state, for the information of Mr. Secretary Churchill

that in the opinion of the Board of Trade the rights

attached to the share held by Mr. Bauer are subject

to the charge set out in the "reaty of Pence Order

by virtue of their being the fruit of the original

holding.
